Neroli oil, also known as Orange Blossom Oil or Neroli Bigarade, is extracted by steam distillation from the fresh orange flowers picked up from the evergreen orange tree. The tree is native to the Far East, however, it was relocated and thrived in the countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, particularly France, Italy, Tunisia, Morocco, and Egypt. It was named after Italian princess Nerola who used it as a perfume.
Traditionally, it is known to be used as a stimulant to the nervous system and in anything relating to neurology. In some areas of the Continent, it is still used as a blood cleanser. The absolute is used in perfumery. The natural oil is pale yellow, but it darkens with age with a sweet, floral fragrance.
It has a rich, floral scent with a lemony touch. Because of its calming effect, it is quite often used in body lotions and cosmetics.
In aromatherapy it is used in:
- Skin care: scars, thread veins, mature skin, wrinkles, etc.
- Circulation problems: helps poor circulation.
- Digestive system problems: chronic diarrhoea, flatulence, spasm.
- Nervous systems problems: depression, anxiety, stress, etc.
Our Neroli essential oil is produced in Egypt from bitter orange trees. Its scent is reminiscent of honey and is fairly sweet.
